Do Indians need a visa for Thailand? For a normal holiday, no. Indian ordinary passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism. This 30-day exemption applies to arrivals from 15 September 2026 and replaces the earlier 60-day exemption. You must still complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before you land, and carry the usual entry documents. This guide explains the current Thailand visa for Indian tourist rules, TDAC steps, e-visa for longer stays, fees, extensions, document checklist and common mistakes to avoid.

Thailand has changed its entry rules several times in recent years. The information here is based on the rules reported for 2026, so please confirm the latest details with the Royal Thai Embassy before you book.
Until September 2026, Indian tourists could stay up to 60 days in Thailand without a visa. From 15 September 2026, the visa-free stay for tourism is 30 days per visit. If you entered Thailand before that date, you keep the stay granted at your arrival. For a normal holiday of 5 to 10 days, nothing changes in practice, because the new limit is still much longer than a typical Thailand package. It matters only if you plan a long vacation, a multi-country trip or a stay beyond a month.
| Option | Stay allowed | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Visa exemption (no visa) | Up to 30 days | Normal holidays, honeymoon, family trips, short group tours |
| Visa-free stay + extension | 30 days + 30 days at immigration | Travellers who decide to stay a little longer after arrival |
| Tourist e-visa (single entry) | Around 60 days | Planned long holidays and extended family visits |
| Tourist e-visa (multiple entry) | Multiple visits, validity as per visa | Frequent travellers |
The TDAC is a mandatory online arrival form that replaced the old paper TM6 card. Every foreign visitor, including Indian tourists, children and visa-free travellers, must submit it for each entry into Thailand. It is free when done on the official website.
Immigration officers may ask about the purpose of your visit and your stay plan, so keep your itinerary and hotel vouchers handy.
Processing can take around 14 working days, so apply at least 3 to 4 weeks before your flight. The visa fee is generally non-refundable, even if the application is rejected.
| Item | Approx. cost |
|---|---|
| Visa exemption (up to 30 days) | Free |
| TDAC (on the official website) | Free |
| Tourist e-visa, single entry | INR 3,000 |
| Tourist e-visa, multiple entry | INR 13,500 |
| Extension of stay at immigration | Around 1,900 THB |
Visa fees listed above are as per the Thai consular fee revision effective 27 April 2026. Fees and exchange rates can change, so check the official e-visa portal before paying. Agents and visa centres may charge an additional service fee.
If you want to stay longer than your permitted days, you can normally apply for a one-time 30-day extension at a local Thai immigration office. Visit before your current stay ends, and carry your passport, a photograph, copies of your passport pages and TDAC, accommodation details and the fee. The extension is decided by the immigration officer and cannot be guaranteed. For a planned stay beyond 30 days, applying for an e-visa in advance is safer.
